Big builds big shows

We cut our teeth on Chicago Spectacle Theater.  Our shows can be
measured in acres, not square feet.  So we understand how to fill a space
visually.
Big builds little shows

non profit and little theaters love Big.  We can provide you with set design,
construction, and installation for your little show.  We know that most
independent theaters in Chicago have no on site build shop, technical
coordination, or builders.  Big does.  We can build off of your plans, provide
you with plans based on your designs, or design your show.
"Electric replicas of candlelight emerge from tiny tin boxes jutting from a worn clapboard
backdrop. And the Old Man’s trusty wooden boat gets hoisted and tossed via bridge
designer David Christopher Krause’s intricate 20-foot metal truss system – more impressive
than the special effects for the latest "Star Wars" installment."

His boat (the Man's "stage"), a well crafted small dingy , was hoisted, suspended and ably
manipulated with an ingenious stage rigging truss created by David Christopher Krause.
This enabled the puppet to row out to sea, and have encounters with wonderful sea and air
puppets as the boat "floats" and interacts with the simulated sea. It gave the boat dynamics,
a puppet-like life of its own, as well as providing other functions for the stage devices and
riggings.

In a space west of the West Loop (proving there will always be more urban to pioneer), founder
Blake Montgomery has created a laboratory for new-work development, and decided to present
the resulting work free of charge. The first "result" was an exquisite bare-bones Hamlet, with
one of the best Hamlets (Christopher Johnson) ever.
